Day 27
July 13 (Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, CA)
Cassandra went to the ranger station first thing in the morning and reserved us a campsite on the northern loop of the campground (our current site was in the southern loop). The last occupants checked out two days early than their reservation, so we have a pretty good chance of being able to stay here for the next two nights! We quickly broke down camp and set-up our new spot - the earlier we got set, the more we could relax here.
It is not nearly as nice and tree-covered here as the southern loop, but it is quieter and still in the redwoods! I felt beat and just wanted to lay around and chill. So, while Cassandra went out to get some groceries, I just hung around camp and thoroughly cleaned the camper (real chill, I know…). I took everything out, reorganized, wiped down everything, and then put it all back; and I had to fix the door covering our under-bed storage. This work made me feel immensely settled and prepared for our next step. We had planned to do this at Matt and Lucie's, and finding the time to do it was helpful and necessary.
This entire time, Ev and Til were with their friends Sierra and Seriah, occasionally checking-in with their walkie-talkie. This may have been the longest they've been away from our campsite ever on a trip, and they relished in their freedom. I cooked a chicken over the fire to absolute perfection for dinner, and we all smashed it!
We didn't do much other than settle and chill, and since we haven't stopped moving this past week, it has been a pleasant change of pace. I hope we get to do it one day and night more here.
