Day 35
July 21 - Antelope Island State Park
We stayed up late hanging around the campsite, so we woke up a bit sleepy.
We spend a leisurely trying to stay cool, and eventually explored the park, including the Visitor Center and the full length of Antelope Island Road.
We saw herds of bison, mule deer, and pronghorn on the drive.
Yes: that is a human-bison warning that we are too close...
The herds of bison were huge - they are so powerful and majestic. I would love to spend more time among them, just observing, listening, and receiving their spirit. We reached the Fielding Garr Ranch, where we learned about the twisting history of the island.
It was hot all day today (we were blast with heat every time we opened the car doors), so we decided to go see Minions 2. The children were so surprised (we hadn’t spend much time in "civilization" since we started this trip) and excited to see it - and it was very, very funny for all of us! I'm so happy we thought to do this on a day where we could use relief from the elements. Evelyn has seemed particularly worn down at times, and I wish we could get her back to 100%.
When we returned to the campground, we realized that the heat shrunk my rubber shower sandals - it was that hot in the full-exposed suns. The sunset was incredible again tonight - Cassandra decided last night that she would paint the sunset tonight (and she learned that it's really hard painting the sunset itself because it is really bright!). I really like this place a lot, but it is tough being out here, and we are all excited to move on tomorrow. Utah is a beautiful and strange place.
Evelyn's life-changes have become increasingly apparent, which is absolutely amazing to be a part of. It's not always the most enjoyable to observe and participate in, but it is most wonderful. She is becoming a bigger kid in front of our eyes - absolute magic.
